Job Stress?

Today, someone asked me if my job was stressful. I was taken aback by the question since I don't usually think about myself, my life, as stressful; don't know if that's a good thing or not; or maybe it's neither. This woman went on to tell me that she hated her job (13 years in her profession) and found it difficult to continue in her chosen profession because of job stress.

I asked her if she had ever liked her job? She thought about it for a minute and admitted that she had been disappointed with her chosen profession. She thought she was poorly paid and was not given the support she thought she deserved. Clearly, these issues can create stress in your life, however, it seems the real issue is job/career dissatisfaction. What do you think?

Are you satisfied with your chosen profession? Do you confuse job stress with job dissatisfaction? If you aren't satisfied with your job, what are you planning to do about it?

First Quarter Ending

In about 2 weeks we will close out the 1st quarter of 2009. What were your resolutions or commitments for 2009? Are you working on them or have you forgotten what they were?

It is not too late to get started today! Nancy

My Thoughts

I'm repeatedly asked my thoughts about the recent highly publicized altercation that took place between a well-known couple.

First, it is unfortunate that this altercation took place. There are no winners; both lost and will continue to lose if they do not receive appropriate help.

What is distressing to me is that some of us have chosen sides along gender lines; this is particularly obvious since felony charges have been filed. Even before the charges, some seem to have lost sight of what is really important: two people, a couple, used physical violence to try to work out their issues. That's pretty troubling to me.

Many of you know someone who is in a tumultuous relationship, right? Do you strongly encourage them to seek professional help? Do you just remain silent because you think it's none of your business?

Do You Settle?

Each day I learn something new about this blogging process. I must tell you technology has a steep learning curve for me so I ask for your patience.

I had posted a question related to settling..I would like to hear from you. This past Tuesday I did a radio interview that focused on why women settle. I gave a few responses..one being that I do believe many women, men too, settle out of fear. I talk about this in my book; while we may not be satisfied with what we have, we are afraid to let it go for fear we won't find something better. I guess many of us do believe that a "bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush."

What have you settled for this past year? Do you have regrets that you settled? What lessons did you learn about the experience?

Waiting to read your comments. Nancy

The purpose of this blog is to open up dialogue about my book. I have talked to lots of women and some men re. favorite chapters..the chapter on Settling seems to be of particular interest. I believe most people, women and men, can feel a kindred to this chapter since most people have settled for less in some areas of our lives. Once we label a behavior or action, it takes on significance or meaning..we are then able to see the reality of what is going on in our life.
We're also able to change what we don't like..this gives us the opportunity to acknowledge and then change what we don't like.
HAVE YOU EVER SETTLED FOR ANYBODY OR ANYTHING IN LIFE? NTW
